We have come to the end of the road.
Microsoft latest announcement that they are retiring SharePoint 2010 workflows on Microsoft 365 has left many companies reeling.
Microsoft recently made a very important and time sensitive announcement regarding the retirement of SharePoint 2010 Workflows. This news is a result of their continued investment into the Microsoft Power Automate platform as the universal solution for connecting all Microsoft 365 services, including SharePoint.
What does this mean for you?
For customers currently using SharePoint 2010 workflows:
On August 1st, 2020, SharePoint 2010 workflows were turned off for newly created tenants.
Starting November 1st, 2020,
Microsoft will begin to remove the ability to run or create SharePoint 2010 workflows from existing tenants.
What do they recommend?
If you currently have SharePoint 2010 workflows in your M365 environment, Microsoft recommends migrating to Power Automate to maintain continuity in your business processes. All Microsoft 365 licenses include usage of the Power Platform for customizing and extending Microsoft 365 applications. This includes both Power Automate and Power Apps.
Don’t know if you have any SharePoint 2010 Workflows?
No Worries! Microsoft has provided a tool for customers to run which will scan your tenant for legacy workflow usage.
The SharePoint Modernization Scanner tool will help you to determine the following:
Distribution of legacy workflows across SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 workflows
Distribution of out of the box and custom legacy workflow usage
Which sites and lists use legacy workflows
Power Automate upgradability score indicating how well the detected actions are up-gradable to flows with Power Automate
What's Next
At SkyeNets, we are offering to run the tool, free of charge. Using the Workflow Report along with site information, we will analyze and review the results with you to determine the best course of action to plan the migration of legacy workflows with minimal interruption.
SharePoint 2013 workflows will remain supported until...
SharePoint 2013 workflows will remain supported, although deprecated, until 2026. It is our recommendation, however, that you begin considering transitioning your SharePoint 2013 Workflows to Power Automate or other supported solutions.
For customers currently using SharePoint 2013 workflows:
Beginning November 2020,
SharePoint 2013 workflows will be turned off by default for new M365 tenants. Microsoft has indicated that they will provide a PowerShell script to let customers activate SharePoint 2013-based workflows for tenants as needed.
What if you are a SharePoint On-Premise customer?
SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 workflows will continue to be supported for on-premises environments including SharePoint 2016 and SharePoint 2019 Server platforms until 2026.
